Injury Confirmation
The 76ers confirmed Tuesday that backup center Ariel Hukporti tore his right Achilles during Monday's preseason opener. The 24-year-old will have surgery later that day, with the team set to provide further updates later.
Contract and Exception Details
Hukporti joined Philadelphia on a one-year, $3.4 million deal in July after winning a title with the Knicks. The club can now pursue a $1.7 million disabled player exception. Sitting $1.8 million under the first apron, the team cannot add a replacement without waiving a player or completing a trade to create space.
Other Frontcourt Absences
Philadelphia also has an open two-way roster spot and signed Tacko Fall on an Exhibit 10 deal, though the 7-foot-5 center is dealing with a left hip strain and will be reevaluated in 7-10 days. Adem Bona remains out with a left foot sprain and has not yet practiced in training camp.
Remaining Options
With Hukporti, Fall and Bona unavailable, the frontcourt rests on starter Joel Embiid along with Dean Wade, Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker. The regular season begins Oct. 20 in New York against the Knicks.
