Garrett’s climb meets a new team
Myles Garrett opens another chapter after a June trade from the Cleveland Browns to the Los Angeles Rams. Last season he earned his second Defensive Player of the Year award and set the single-season mark with 23 sacks. He entered this year with 125.5 career sacks, tied for 20th in league history and third among active players inside the top 30. Now in his 10th season, he has averaged roughly 14 sacks a year. Matching that pace would draw him even with Jason Taylor at No. 7. Another big year could carry him past Michael Strahan at No. 6 and toward the top five. Since his 2017 rookie season his 125.5 total sat 10.5 ahead of every other player, and he has reached at least 14 sacks in each of the past five seasons, the longest such streak since 1982. An 18.5-sack campaign would give him the most over any two-season span since 1982, and his career ascent ranks as the second-fastest among the all-time top five behind only Reggie White.
Veterans still stacked in the top 30
Von Miller holds No. 9 after signing with the Dallas Cowboys in August and sits only three sacks behind Strahan. Cameron Jordan is No. 17. Calais Campbell, T.J. Watt, Danielle Hunter and Khalil Mack fill spots from 25 into the high 20s. Aaron Donald unretired to join Garrett on the Rams defensive line; his 111 sacks stood two behind 30th place before the season.
Early-season nudges and absences
Watt provided the clearest early movement, logging 1.5 sacks through two weeks for 3.5 on the year and later reaching 4.5 by Week 4 along with a forced fumble and recovery. At points he tied or passed Campbell for 25th. Hunter and Mack also posted sacks that broke ties and lifted them one spot each, leaving Watt, Campbell, Hunter and Mack at Nos. 25 through 28 in one snapshot while Miller, Jordan and Garrett still sought their first sacks of the year. Donald debuted against the Giants with three tackles and one tackle for loss but no sack and was listed 33rd. Garrett failed to record a tackle in Australia, had arthroscopic knee surgery and went on injured reserve, sidelined at least the next four games.
