Hire Comes After Leadership Change

The Athletics have named Taylor Smith president of baseball operations. The appointment arrives two months after the club announced that former general manager David Forst would not return. Smith takes over as the organization prepares for its final year in West Sacramento, California, before relocating to Las Vegas in 2028.

Recent Season Sets the Stage

The team finished 64-98 this year while playing its second season at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento. Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein had been serving as interim general manager. Forst had held the general manager role since 2015 and had been with the organization since 2000.

Smith's Path to the Role

Smith spent the previous two years as assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox. Before that, he worked seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays.
