Early Deficit Overcome
Auburn trailed 14-0 before mounting a comeback to win 27-24 on the road. Entering the week unranked teams that fell behind the AP No. 1 by at least 14 points had lost 195 straight games. The last such victory by an unranked side came in 1998. Georgia had entered with a 95-3 record under its current coach when leading by 14 or more, including a 65-0 mark against unranked opponents.
Quarterback Sets Rare Mark
Auburn's signal-caller accounted for 115 rushing yards and 150 passing yards. That made him the first quarterback with 100-plus rushing yards in a win over an AP No. 1 since a Texas standout posted 200 on the ground against USC in the 2005 national title game.
Rare Week of Chaos at No. 1
The result marked the fifth time in history that the top-ranked team has lost to an unranked opponent in consecutive weeks, joining seasons from 1990, 1981, 1960 and 1942. Georgia became the third No. 1 squad to fall this season, a development that has occurred only twice before by Week 7. Both the Texas and Georgia defeats ended on walk-off field goals, the first such back-to-back occurrences since the AP poll began in 1936. Top-ranked teams had also won 93 straight home games against unranked foes before the setback.
