Late mistake precedes roster change

The Cincinnati Bengals released wide receiver Ke'Shawn Williams after his muffed punt helped set up the decisive score in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Williams mishandled the return in the fourth quarter, giving Pittsburgh an opportunity that ended with the game-winning field goal. The defeat was Cincinnati's first of the season. Coach Zac Taylor indicated Monday that Williams' role would be discussed, though he had not settled on what a change would look like. Cincinnati subsequently moved on from the receiver.

Tinsley returns amid injuries

The Bengals also signed wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley on Tuesday, bringing back a familiar option while dealing with injuries at the position. Andrei Iosivas is on injured reserve after thumb surgery, while rookie Colbie Young is expected to miss at least one week because of a left knee injury. The transactions reverse the outcome of a notable training camp competition. Williams started four of his 17 appearances, recording eight receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Tinsley was among Cincinnati's final cuts before joining the Houston Texans' practice squad. He now returns to a Bengals receiving group in need of depth.
