Kerr Tapped for Postseason Debut
The Atlanta Braves will send left-hander Ray Kerr out as the opener for Thursday night’s decisive Game 3 of the National League Wild Card series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The assignment gives the 32-year-old his first career postseason appearance. Kerr rejoined the Braves on Aug. 16 and made his first major league outing in more than two years the next day. He had Tommy John surgery in 2024 and did not pitch at all in 2025.
Nola Starts, Holmes Ready in Relief
Veteran right-hander Aaron Nola is expected to take the ball for the Phillies after going 7-12 with a 4.67 ERA this season. Atlanta plans to follow Kerr with right-hander Grant Holmes in a bulk relief role. Holmes finished 10-6 with a 3.44 ERA. The two worked a similar arrangement on Sept. 25 at Miami, when Kerr opened with three scoreless innings and Holmes allowed one run across four innings in a 3-0 loss.
Series Forced to Winner-Take-All
Philadelphia pushed the best-of-three series to a final game by beating the Braves 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday.
