Brock Bowers wasted little time showing how central he could become to Klint Kubiak’s offense. Returning after a meniscus cleanup, the Raiders tight end caught 10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown against the Saints in his first appearance of the 2026 season. The production was impressive, but his deployment offered the bigger clue about what could come next. All 13 of Bowers’ targets came from the slot or out wide, giving Las Vegas a receiving threat whose positional label does not fully describe his role.
A familiar blueprint for Kubiak
Kubiak leaned on similar concepts with Smith-Njigba in Seattle last season, using isolated matchups, option routes and formation changes to create opportunities for his featured receiver. Against New Orleans, Bowers received that treatment. He drew eight targets out wide and caught six of them. Both figures matched the highest marks for a tight end in alignment data dating to 2016. His ability to separate against cornerbacks allowed the Raiders to present multi-tight-end personnel while attacking through receiver-style matchups. Bowers accounted for 46.8% of Las Vegas’ receiving yards and 41.9% of its targets against the Saints. That concentration suggests Kubiak could build much of the passing game around him, although sustaining those shares remains a question.
Kansas City gets the next test
The Raiders and Chiefs enter their Week 4 meeting at 3-0, with Bowers adding a different challenge for Kansas City’s defense. The Chiefs limited Colts tight end Tyler Warren to 21 yards on six receptions, but Bowers’ perimeter usage presents a different assignment. New Orleans gave him room early, and future opponents could contest those releases more aggressively. The next step is whether Kubiak can keep creating favorable opportunities as defenses adjust. Bowers’ debut provided a strong starting point, not a guarantee that every matchup will unfold the same way.
