Camp Reps Build Precision
During the 49ers' 16th training camp practice, Brock Purdy repeatedly tested throws over the middle against Fred Warner.
Mental and Visual Prep
Purdy studies route timing, defender wingspans and receiver breaks before each snap. He also performs daily vision drills with an iPad and 3D glasses plus saccade exercises lasting two to four minutes. At 6-foot-1, he relies on this preparation rather than size to create throwing windows, often releasing the ball without seeing the target.
Results Between the Hashes
Since 2022, among quarterbacks with at least 30 starts, Purdy ranks fourth in attempts (224) and completions (163) between the hashes, second in yards (2,389) and yards per attempt (10.7), and tied for third in touchdowns (16). On tight-window throws in that area since the start of 2025, he leads the league in yards and is tied for second in completions. One playoff example came with 5:38 left in the second quarter when he released the ball in 2.63 seconds to create 2.8 yards of separation for the receiver.
