McMillan faces another knee setback
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved wide receiver Jalen McMillan to injured reserve Wednesday after he aggravated his left knee injury in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The designation rules him out for at least the next four games. McMillan sustained a PCL sprain, with an initial recovery estimate of six to eight weeks. He was hurt in a collision with Vikings safety Josh Metellus while trying to catch a pass on a corner route. The setback follows a difficult start to McMillan’s season. His earlier knee injury cost him multiple weeks of training camp and kept him out of Tampa Bay’s opener. He has appeared in two games without recording a catch.
Rypien adds depth behind Daniels
Tampa Bay also brought veteran quarterback Brett Rypien onto its practice squad Wednesday as it prepares to play without Baker Mayfield. The starting quarterback is expected to miss at least the next three weeks with a dislocated right thumb. Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels will move into the starting role beginning this week against the Green Bay Packers. Rypien gives the Buccaneers another veteran option, with Easton Stick already on the practice squad. In a separate roster move Wednesday, Tampa Bay promoted safety Ifeatu Melifonwu from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
