Slater Heads to Injured Reserve
The Chargers announced Friday that left tackle Rashawn Slater will miss at least four games after undergoing surgery for a high right ankle sprain.
Multiple Linemen Sidelined
The team is expected to be without three starting offensive linemen when it plays the Broncos on Sunday. Joe Alt is dealing with a neck issue, while left guard Kayode Awosika has been out since Week 2 with a fibula injury. His backup, Trey Pipkins III, landed on injured reserve after Week 2, and Trevor Penning remains in concussion protocol.
Rookies Likely to See Action
With the offensive line depleted, the Chargers could start as many as four rookies on Sunday, a group that appeared for the final eleven snaps in the loss to Seattle. Additional options include Branson Taylor, who is eligible to return from injured reserve, rookie Alex Harkey and veteran Daniel Brunskill, recently added to the practice squad.
Further Injuries Across Roster
Safety Derwin James Jr., cornerback Donte Jackson and wide receiver Ladd McConkey all sat out practice this week. James missed the Seattle game, while McConkey and Jackson left that contest early. Slater, in the first year of a four-year, $114 million extension, had been sidelined for all of last season with a knee injury.
