Simmons sets the edge standard

Colin Simmons gave evaluators plenty to study in Texas' victory over Tennessee, recording five sacks to match the program's single-game mark established in 1990. The damage came from multiple alignments. Simmons attacked from either edge and moved inside in late-down situations, using his acceleration and closing speed to overwhelm protection. With seven sacks this season, he has the strongest early case to lead the edge-rusher group in the 2027 NFL draft. South Carolina's Dylan Stewart remains a major challenger. His size and explosiveness offer a compelling alternative, setting up a potential debate between athletic upside and Simmons' production.

Baugh builds an early-round résumé

Florida running back Jadan Baugh continued his strong start with 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a win over Ole Miss. His season totals reached 600 yards and 11 rushing scores, placing him among the FBS leaders in both categories. Baugh's balance through contact and quickness give him more than a power-runner profile. He has also handled at least 25 carries in consecutive games, adding evidence that he can shoulder a demanding workload. He currently looks like the class's leading running back, with a selection in the teens a possibility if his form holds.

Pass catchers and linebackers gain ground

Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson returned from injury with seven receptions for 119 yards against USC. His receiving range and athleticism support a potential opening-round selection, though his blocking still needs refinement. Georgia linebacker Chris Cole also strengthened his case against Oklahoma, collecting eight tackles, a sack and two fumble recoveries, including an 85-yard touchdown return. His range and flexibility make him a potential mid-to-late opening-round target. Despite Ole Miss' defeat, receiver Deuce Alexander supplied seven catches for 134 yards and a touchdown. His downfield speed gives him a chance to join the opening-round discussion as well.
