Gardner Reviews Performance Shortcomings
Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner acknowledged that his effort fell short in the recent win over the Commanders in London. He pointed to multiple instances where his pursuit was lacking, which drew attention online and left him determined to avoid any repeat. Gardner emphasized that such lapses do not align with the standards he sets for himself as a player.
Key Plays Highlight Pursuit Issues
One notable sequence involved an 87-yard catch-and-run by Commanders receiver Antonio Williams. Although Gardner was not directly assigned to cover Williams, he eased up when it appeared a teammate might secure the tackle. Williams stayed upright, and the play continued until a penalty overturned the score. Gardner also faced scrutiny on a 47-yard touchdown to Treylon Burks and a 48-yard completion to Dyami Brown, though he identified effort rather than coverage as the primary concern.
Focus Shifts to Building Better Habits
Gardner noted that he spotted a flag on the field during one play and assumed it would negate the action, but he stressed that this offered no excuse for failing to run to the ball. He described the feeling of watching teammates sprint past him as unacceptable and said the experience has left him eager to return to practice. Effort, he added, is a personal responsibility that requires consistent work to maintain.
