Key Absence Confirmed
Washington will be without its leading rusher when it travels to face the 49ers. The running back missed all practice sessions during the week because of the groin problem that flared up again after the 27-27 result against the Giants in Week 5. He had carried the ball 11 times for 82 yards in that contest but touched it only once after the third quarter. The latest setback marks a return of the same issue that already caused him to miss the final two preseason games. He enters the week with 239 rushing yards and two scores on the season.
Backfield Adjustments
With the starter unavailable, the team will turn to Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler. White has been managing a shoulder issue that limited his work on Friday after a full session the day before. Ekeler, who joined the roster before Week 4, has also been restricted in practice because of a chest problem. Jeremy McNichols is expected to make the trip and may be activated from injured reserve, where he has been since the summer with a quad injury.
Additional Injury Developments
The status of receiver Stefon Diggs remains uncertain after he sat out the Giants game with a hamstring injury. He was limited in Friday's session. Corner Trey Amos and safety Nick Cross both practiced fully and could return from injured reserve. Amos has been sidelined with an ankle injury while Cross has not played since Week 2 because of an internal issue.
