Brewers hold the early edge against Padres
The National League division series is nearly locked in after the Padres advanced from the wild-card round. Milwaukee enters as a solid favorite, winning 64 percent of simulations, built on a full-season body of work rather than a late surge alone. The Brewers posted a franchise-record 103 victories and ranked among the top clubs in runs, average, walks and production with runners in scoring position. Their home dominance adds another layer, having led the majors in runs per home game. Jacob Misiorowski anchored the staff with a 1.80 ERA, 252 strikeouts and a.157 batting average allowed, while Logan Henderson went 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA. Three regulars finished with an OPS over.800, and the bullpen ranked near the top in ERA and OPS allowed. Still, the club knows a short series can turn on a few swings from San Diego’s veterans.
What San Diego needs to extend the run
The Padres rode home energy and star production through the wild-card round, finishing a major-league-best 21-5 at home in August and September. Without that home-field edge now, they must generate more from the lower half of the order against a deep Milwaukee roster. Xander Bogaerts, the $280 million shortstop, found a late groove with a.315/.425/.479 slash in the final month and delivered multihit games including a 2-for-4 opener with a home run. Matching the Brewers’ execution over a longer series will be harder than leaning on the back end of the bullpen in a best-of-three. Milwaukee’s lack of power remains a talking point after last year’s NLCS, yet the current rotation front and balanced offense change the equation.
Yankees-Rays sets up as a heavyweight AL clash
In the American League, the Yankees advanced and sit as slight favorites at 55 percent of simulations assuming Aaron Judge is fully available, dipping to roughly 52 percent if he is limited. New York held more than a five-win Pythagorean edge in the regular season and a 4.6-win edge in roster ratings. Both clubs feature strong offenses, rotations and bullpens. Tampa Bay’s versatile roster and deployment style make this a matchup of strengths, one that could feel like an early championship series.
