The Philadelphia 76ers closed out preseason with a 125-120 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night. Coach Nick Nurse used the game to give extended minutes to several starters, including LeBron James and Joel Embiid. VJ Edgecombe sat out for precautionary reasons, allowing the team to see how its primary rotation might function without the second-year guard.
Embiid Stands Out
He finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists. In the third quarter he threw down a powerful dunk that energized the crowd at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Focus on Building Rhythm
Despite the individual highlights, the group struggled to find flow against the Celtics reserves. Jaylen Brown noted issues with spacing that contributed to turnovers and said the team is still coming together as a new unit with different styles. LeBron James agreed the process is ongoing after just a couple of weeks of work. The 76ers open the regular season against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
