Fantasy basketball draft watch: Wilson offers upside, James carries risk
Changing roles put Caleb Wilson, Reid and Walker Kessler on the fantasy radar for 2026-27, while LeBron James faces a crowded offense in Philadelphia.

Sleepers with room to produce
Opportunity is a major part of the fantasy draft equation, and Caleb Wilson has an appealing combination of available minutes and scoring potential in Chicago. The rookie averaged 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.5 blocks during Summer League and is set to start at power forward for the Bulls. Reid also has a path to greater value after moving from Minnesota to Charlotte. A potential starting assignment could give his scoring, rebounding and perimeter shooting more room to translate into fantasy production. The uncertainty is how much offensive work remains alongside Coby White, Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller.
Kessler's ceiling hinges on availability
Walker Kessler enters an attractive situation as the Lakers' primary big man alongside Luka Doncic. His finishing should fit that partnership, while rebounding and defensive production give him particular appeal in category formats. Health remains the central concern. Kessler appeared in only 63 of a possible 162 games across his last seasons with Utah. Staying available could put top-40 category-league value within reach. Cedric Coward offers another breakout possibility in Memphis. After averaging 13.6 points in 25.8 minutes as a rookie, he could benefit from a starting backcourt role on a rebuilding roster.
A smaller fantasy role for James?
LeBron James could improve Philadelphia's championship prospects without delivering a comparable boost to fantasy managers. A healthy lineup featuring Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe leaves substantial competition for offensive opportunities. James already showed a willingness to defer alongside Doncic and Austin Reaves with the Lakers. The draft risk is paying for his established fantasy reputation when his new assignment may require less scoring and creation.
