Strong Opening Numbers
Derrick Henry has averaged 22.7 fantasy points per game through the first four weeks, good for fourth among running backs. Only three others at the position have outscored him, even though he ranks just 10th in yards from scrimmage. Seven touchdowns have fueled the output so far.
Worrisome Trends Beneath the Surface
Several metrics from recent seasons show signs of wear. Henry is at personal lows in yards per carry, yards after contact per carry, explosive run rate and maximum speed. His forced missed tackles rate is the second lowest in the sample, and he has posted just seven targets all year, limiting value in PPR formats. A 2.0 yards before contact mark has helped early, but that figure has come against the lowest loaded-box rate since 2021.
Why Move Him Now
At 33 years old in less than three months, Henry may struggle to sustain touchdown volume. With the quarterback situation creating more stacked boxes ahead, yardage production will need to rise to maintain his current pace. Trading him for backs such as Jonathan Taylor, Christian McCaffrey, James Cook III, Ashton Jeanty, Chase Brown or Kyren Williams, or for top receivers, can lock in value before any drop-off occurs.
