Goalie Landscape Shifts Quickly
Two weeks into the season the fantasy goaltending picture has changed from draft day expectations. One netminder who ranked 20th already sits well ahead of where he stood at the same stage a year ago when he was 51st. Historical patterns show that of the top 12 fantasy goalies through the first 90 games last season only four remained in the top 12 by year's end and fewer than half of the top 24 stayed there.
Waiver Targets in Net
Injuries and rotations open paths for available options. One Rangers option available in 58 percent of leagues has posted strong per-minute production and faces a busy upcoming stretch. A Carolina netminder has recorded at least 2.4 fantasy points in each of his three outings while splitting work and remains widely available. Other situations worth monitoring include a Montreal pair where the higher-ranked performer per 60 minutes is on most wires and a Seattle starter still unrostered in nearly half of leagues despite ranking in the top 15 in overall fantasy points.
Power-Play Unit Additions
Several skaters riding top units with strong deployment stand out. A Detroit winger on a top group has two power-play points in his last three games. An Islanders center has posted similar production while his line generates elevated shot attempts. An Oilers forward shares time with two star centers and an Edmonton unit that has scored three times in limited minutes together. Other names include a Vegas left winger logging heavy power-play time and a Wild right winger who has two power-play points in his past three outings.
