Overview of the Unsuccessful Teams
Twenty-five of MLB's 30 teams have won at least one World Series. The five without a title are the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays. Each has come close in different ways over their histories.
National League Teams
The Rockies, founded in 1993, reached the World Series once in 2007 and were swept. They have never won their division and have five wild-card berths. The Brewers, founded in 1970, appeared in the World Series once in 1982 and lost in seven games. They reached the NLCS in 2018 and lost four games to three, then advanced again in 2025. They are the oldest team without a title.
American League Teams
The Mariners, founded in 1977, have never reached the World Series despite six playoff appearances. They advanced to the ALCS in 2025 as the fourth such trip but fell in Game 7 after earlier losses in 1995, 2000 and 2001.
