New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award for his ongoing humanitarian efforts. The five-time All-Star will accept the honor before Game 3 of the World Series. He becomes the fifth player of Puerto Rican descent to receive the award, following recipients in 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2018.
Community Partnerships and Donations
Lindor and his wife have supported Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the SEEN Foundation, Special Olympics Florida and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Their contributions include relief aid after Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, restoration of athletic facilities in Caguas, and more than $1 million toward Lindor Hall at Montverde Academy. Additional projects include a leadership program for students in the sports medicine track at Bayside High School and supplies for schools in Queens.
Award Legacy
The annual award recognizes a major league player who demonstrates character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field. It is named for the 15-time All-Star from Puerto Rico who died in a 1972 plane crash while delivering supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
