Giants face an offensive reset

The Giants head into Week 3 needing a different approach after Jaxson Dart's early exit against the Rams helped unravel an offense built around his mobility. New York lost 28-6, and Dart's injury has proved more serious than initially believed. Jameis Winston now takes over with the benefit of a full practice week and a game plan tailored to his strengths. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy can lean into Winston's comfort in the shotgun, but the Giants also need a productive rushing attack and quick decisions from the pocket to limit turnover risks. The supporting cast remains a concern. Malik Nabers, Andrew Thomas and Brian Burns also left the Rams game with injuries. Thomas and Burns are not believed to have serious issues, while Nabers' availability carries added importance for an offense adjusting to a backup quarterback. Practice-squad quarterback Jake Haener is an internal depth option. Outside alternatives appear limited, leaving New York's immediate hopes tied to helping Winston perform better than he did in relief.

Mahomes benefits from a stronger ground game

Kansas City's outlook is considerably brighter. The Chiefs are 2-0, and Patrick Mahomes showed greater confidence and smoother movement against Indianapolis as he continues his return from a torn ACL. Mahomes has thrown five touchdown passes and taken four sacks, with Kenneth Walker III helping ease the offensive burden. Walker has logged 56 touches, including 47 rushing attempts, through two games as Andy Reid has made the ground game a central part of the attack. That workload could create opportunities for rookie Emmett Johnson to contribute. Kansas City also awaits left tackle Josh Simmons' return, although undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has held up in his absence. A healthier offensive line could open more downfield opportunities. For now, the Chiefs' willingness to run has given Mahomes support while he rebuilds confidence following knee surgery.
