Season-Ending Procedure
New York Giants wide receiver Braxton Berrios will undergo surgery on his injured foot, bringing his season to a close. The announcement came on his 31st birthday, marking the third straight year an injury has cut his campaign short. Berrios has served as the team's top kickoff and punt returner while also filling the fourth wide receiver spot. He recorded no receptions across 23 offensive snaps and averaged 2.5 yards on punt returns.
Return Role Adjustments
Charlie Jones, signed to the active roster alongside Berrios last week, will handle return duties moving forward. Jones posted two punt returns for 29 yards and averaged 23 yards on kickoff returns in a recent game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Giants plan to fill out the depth chart from within, with Dalen Cambre and Jalin Hyatt on the practice squad. They are also adding former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Dontae Fleming to the practice squad. The team recently released Odell Beckham Jr. to create roster space.
Professional Background
Now in his eighth NFL season, Berrios has played for the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Giants. As a receiver he has 140 career catches for 1,360 yards and six touchdowns.
