Suspension Upheld
The NFL rejected the appeal filed by Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw on Tuesday. He will serve the one-game suspension during the team's Monday night game against the Commanders. The league action follows an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty assessed during the prior Sunday contest.
Incident Details
Greenlaw received the penalty with 6:30 remaining in the first half. He made contact with Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold late and beyond the boundary. A subsequent altercation with Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV included a head-butt while Jones was without a helmet. The league cited Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which covers acts contrary to accepted principles of sportsmanship.
Prior Discipline
This marks Greenlaw's second one-game suspension in consecutive seasons. While with the Broncos last year he was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct after running toward referee Brad Allen and verbally threatening him. Sunday's ejection was the third of his career, following a late hit on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert in 2022 and a sideline incident against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
