Fresh Injury Adds to Forward Depth Concerns
Taylor Hall left the game after suffering an upper-body injury and did not return. The 34-year-old forward had recorded three goals and five points this season. Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour provided no further details beyond noting the outlook did not appear favorable. The club already is missing captain Jordan Staal, who will miss one to two months with a torn calf muscle. Staal, 38, sustained the injury while warming up before Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
Svechnikov Delivers Late Winner in Six-Game Streak
Andrei Svechnikov scored twice, including the decisive goal with 6:04 remaining in the third period. Eric Robinson and Mark Jankowski also found the net for Carolina, which improved to six straight victories. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 20 shots to move to 4-0-0 on the season. Hall had contributed seven goals and 19 points across 19 postseason games last spring while averaging 16:28 of ice time.
Capitals Receive Scoring from Jenner and Holl
Boone Jenner and Justin Holl scored for Washington. Ryan Leonard recorded two assists. Logan Thompson made 31 saves in the 4-2 defeat at Lenovo Center.
