Encouraging outlook for Richard
Indiana running back Turbo Richard is not believed to have suffered a serious injury after exiting Friday’s 29-23 victory over Northwestern. Further evaluation Saturday brought optimism that he could be back soon, potentially for next week’s visit to Rutgers. Richard injured his right foot/ankle early in the second quarter as he was brought down near Indiana’s sideline following a 2-yard gain. He limped to the locker room and missed the remainder of the game. His availability for Rutgers remains uncertain.
Beebe delivers in relief
Richard had gained 68 yards on nine carries before leaving. He entered the Northwestern matchup with 315 rushing yards and four touchdowns through Indiana’s first three games. Lee Beebe Jr. Took over as the primary running back and finished with 203 rushing yards and a touchdown, helping the Hoosiers secure the win. Afterward, coach Curt Cignetti attributed Richard’s injury to a hip-drop tackle. Cignetti also said Northwestern’s Brendan Flakes hit Richard out of bounds, though officials did not call a penalty.
Backfield already missing Martin
Indiana is also without running back Khobie Martin, who injured his forearm in the season opener against North Texas.
