Wilson moves toward starting role
Colorado is expected to turn to Isaac Wilson at quarterback against No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday after giving the Utah transfer work with its top offense in practice this week. Coach Deion Sanders stopped short of naming a starter Tuesday, saying the choice would hinge on practice. He did, however, describe Wilson as enthusiastic about the opportunity and praised him for addressing and challenging his teammates during a meeting.
Change follows Baylor defeat
Wilson replaced Julian Lewis at halftime of Colorado’s Big 12 opener at Baylor, with the Buffaloes trailing 10-3. Colorado ultimately lost 23-13, falling to 2-2. Wilson completed 12 of 25 attempts for 156 yards and a touchdown, guiding Colorado to two scoring drives in the third quarter. Sanders took responsibility for the switch, explaining afterward that he wanted to spark an offense that needed points. Lewis, a five-star recruit in the 2025 class, has passed for 733 yards with a 64% completion rate this season. He has accounted for seven total touchdowns and three turnovers.
Buffaloes searching for production
The quarterback decision comes amid broader offensive struggles under first-year coordinator Brennan Marion. Colorado has managed 34 points across its three games against FBS competition. Its 21.5-point scoring average ranks No. 114 in FBS and includes a 52-point outing against FCS opponent Weber State. Wilson brings starting experience from Utah, where he started seven games in 2024. As a true freshman, he threw for 1,510 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
