Soto leaves after late hit-by-pitch
Juan Soto's status for the Mets' season finale is uncertain after the left fielder was struck on the right hand during Saturday's 7-1 victory over the Nationals in Washington. Manager Andy Green said X-rays came back negative, but he did not know whether Soto would be able to play Sunday. The injury occurred in the ninth inning when Richard Lovelady hit Soto with a 91 mph sinker. Soto spun away from the pitch and shook his right hand as he started toward first base. He then reversed course, met with an athletic trainer and headed back to the dugout, ending his appearance in the game.
Availability remains unresolved
Soto is batting.278 with 27 home runs and 68 RBIs in his second season with the Mets. He has already had two stints on the injured list this season because of calf strains.
