Rookie forward Cole Knuble scored twice for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Playing just his second NHL game, Knuble found the net in front of his father, Mike Knuble, who appeared in 1,068 career contests across five teams. He became the first Flyers player since Václav Prospal in 1997 to record a multi-goal outing within his first two games.
Game Flow and Key Contributions
Trevor Zegras added a goal while Dan Vladar turned aside 27 shots to give the Flyers their third consecutive victory after an 0-6-3 start. Jason Zucker scored in his season debut following sports hernia surgery for Buffalo. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 23 saves as the Sabres moved to 1-1-2 in their last four games. Captain Rasmus Dahlin returned after missing four contests with an upper-body injury. Tyson Foerster also rejoined the lineup after sitting out one game due to an undisclosed injury.
Timeline of Scoring
Knuble opened the scoring at 14:49 of the first period. Zegras extended the lead with a power-play goal at 19:17. Zucker replied with a power-play marker at 19:25 of the second period to make it 2-1. Knuble restored the two-goal advantage 3:03 into the third when the puck banked off Luukkonen's skate. Both clubs return to action Saturday, with the Sabres visiting the Washington Capitals and the Flyers hosting the Anaheim Ducks.
