Philadelphia unveils its new look
LeBron James and Jaylen Brown were among the biggest attractions as NBA media days concluded Monday, giving Philadelphia a chance to showcase its reshaped roster before the 2026-27 season. James identified Tyrese Maxey as an important reason behind his decision to join the 76ers, and the teammates mixed jokes into their photo duties. Brown’s arrival also reshaped Boston, where Jayson Tatum posed alongside Paul George and praised his new teammate. Houston and Dallas held their events last week ahead of a trip to China for a preseason doubleheader, while the rest of the league followed Monday.
Familiar stars, different uniforms
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s move from Milwaukee to Miami brought an adjustment beyond basketball: getting accustomed to local wildlife, including an iguana at his home. He and Bam Adebayo also teamed up for a Dragon Ball Z fusion dance. Portland introduced a backcourt featuring Ja Morant and Damian Lillard following Morant’s offseason trade. LaMelo Ball posed in Minnesota colors, while Kawhi Leonard marked his return to Toronto by revisiting the memorable laugh from his introductory appearance in 2018. Elsewhere, Nikola Vucevic returned to Orlando, and Ben Simmons appeared in Sacramento gear as he prepared to resume NBA action.
Champions and contenders reset
The Knicks entered media day as champions for the first time in over 50 years. San Antonio looked toward another Finals appearance, while Oklahoma City sought a response after its Western Conference finals loss to the Spurs. There was plenty of levity, too. Stephen Curry danced, Jimmy Butler III displayed new jewelry, and Dallas standout Cooper Flagg declined to settle speculation about an offseason growth spurt. In Indiana, Tyrese Haliburton said he was fully healthy entering the season.
