Demands Over Playing Time
Representatives for JJ Gabriel insisted the teenager receive at least 20 minutes in matches against Sabah FK, Brighton and Bournemouth before any scholarship talks could start. The forward, who turns 16 on Tuesday, had been set to feature in the Carabao Cup but left the club ahead of that fixture. He has not trained with the first team since Sept. 16, though he appears in a squad photo taken nearly a month earlier. Club officials had already granted his request for the No.77 squad number and sought Premier League approval for Gabriel JR on his shirt.
Pathway Concerns and External Interest
Gabriel made a preseason appearance against Atlético Madrid yet was left out of the Champions League squad. With a pre-agreement possible from Oct. 6, his representatives believe earlier assurances were not kept. Several clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, have been connected with a potential move. United have signaled willingness to pursue legal steps if any approaches breach regulations. Internally, staff maintain that Old Trafford remains the strongest environment for his growth and have assigned specialist coaches normally reserved for senior players.
Well-Being and Future Outlook
Despite the fractured relationship, club officials have repeatedly checked on Gabriel’s welfare. United chose not to discipline him after he missed a week of preseason training with the academy. There is ongoing concern that decisions affecting his career may be driven more by a desire for early records than long-term progress. Sources close to the club emphasize that every effort has been made to demonstrate a clear route to the first team.
