Agreement Reached
The Mavericks have finalized a two-way NBA contract with Walter Clayton Jr. The 23-year-old guard cleared waivers after the Memphis Grizzlies waived him earlier this week ahead of the roster deadline. Dallas adds the player who was originally selected with the No. 18 pick in the 2025 draft.
Recent Playing Time
Clayton appeared in 24 games for the Grizzlies after they acquired him from Utah on Feb. 3 as part of an eight-player trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr., Jock Landale, John Konchar and Vince Williams Jr. to the Jazz. In those contests he averaged 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 36.6 percent from three-point range.
College Background
Before turning professional, Clayton helped Florida capture its third national title. He earned Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors and was named a consensus first-team All-American in 2025.
Backcourt Depth
The Mavericks remain thin at ball-handler positions even after Kyrie Irving returned from his ACL injury.
