Missouri offensive lineman Johnnie DJ Jones received a heart transplant on Wednesday night while hospitalized in Florida. The procedure went well according to a statement from coach Eliah Drinkwitz, and Jones is now in recovery.
Condition Identified This Summer
The issue surfaced during routine medical testing of freshmen this summer. Jones was monitored for a couple of weeks before being sent to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where the severity became clear. He was placed on the transplant list and needed assistance quickly.
