Boston weighs an offensive adjustment

Training camp brings a fresh test for the Celtics after a first-round playoff exit against Philadelphia exposed limitations in their otherwise productive offense. Boston has won 73% of its regular-season games over the past four seasons while consistently finishing among the league's top four teams in 3-point attempts. Generating opportunities at the rim remains a concern, however, and a changed roster gives the Celtics reason to reconsider their approach. Paul George has replaced Jaylen Brown, while Mitchell Robinson arrives to bolster the frontcourt. George offers a midrange option without sacrificing perimeter shooting: He topped 39% from beyond the arc last season.

Atlanta and Brooklyn face interior questions

The Hawks enter camp looking to address a lack of size after finishing 29th in both second-chance points and points in the paint allowed. Drafting Zuby Ejiofor and retaining Jock Landale should help, but injuries complicate the picture. Mouhamed Gueye could miss the beginning of 2026-27 with a fractured foot, and Henri Veesaar is expected to miss the season with a torn right ACL. Brooklyn also has work to do around the basket after trading Nic Claxton to Chicago in the Julius Randle deal. Remaining centers Day'Ron Sharpe and Moritz Wagner combined to average 1.0 block per 36 minutes last season. Randle and rookie Mikel Brown Jr. Provide additional playmaking options as the Nets seek progress from their young roster.

Charlotte turns to White and Miller

Coby White moves into Charlotte's starting backcourt following LaMelo Ball's trade to Minnesota. His previous starting experience should ease that transition. Brandon Miller's development is another central question. Despite offseason shoulder surgery, he is expected to participate fully in camp. Charlotte also faces an Oct. 19 deadline to reach a rookie extension with the forward.
