Sayin Injury Details
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin suffered a throwing shoulder injury during the fourth quarter of the team's 19-15 victory at No. 5 Indiana. Coach Ryan Day indicated the starter will miss several weeks. The injury occurred on a sack by Mario Landino that also forced a fumble. He threw two touchdown passes in the game, one a 38-yard strike.
Fahey Takes Over
True freshman Luke Fahey, a 5-foot-11, 206-pound signal caller from Mission Viejo, California, entered the game and will serve as the starting quarterback during Sayin's absence. Fahey went 0-for-2 passing but showed mobility on his first snap with an eight-yard scramble that set up a first down after a penalty. The team has a bye next weekend before facing No. 19 USC on Oct. 31. Day noted adjustments may be needed with the new starter under center.
Game Outcome and Team Response
The Buckeyes preserved their lead when an Indiana fourth-down catch in the end zone was ruled out of bounds with just over a minute left. Jeremiah Smith recorded a touchdown reception in the win and now has 39 career scores in that category. Teammates expressed confidence in Fahey's ability to handle the role, emphasizing trust in the backup plan moving forward.
