Ohtani's Outdoor Sessions Signal Desperation
Shohei Ohtani has taken batting practice on the field for four straight days, a rare occurrence tied to his extended struggles. The Dodgers sit in a 2-0 hole against the Brewers, and Ohtani has not homered since Aug. 18. Since then he has posted a.156/.283/.200 line with three extra-base hits and one run batted in.
Injuries and Performance Decline
Ohtani's left knee flared in early June, limiting his pitching after a 0.74 ERA in his first 10 starts and a 4.38 ERA in his next four. He did not pitch after July 3 and later dealt with right biceps tightness. Through 121 games he had 30 home runs, but in his next 49 at-bats he managed six hits and 21 strikeouts. In 20 playoff at-bats he has three singles, going 1-for-7 in the NLCS as the team carries a.591 OPS.
Dodgers Stick With Their Star
Manager Dave Roberts spoke with Ohtani after Game 2 and decided to keep him in the lineup. The club has a replacement option in 21-year-old Josue De Paula, who debuted Sept.
