Ohtani extends his lead
Shohei Ohtani has added a merchandise milestone to his profile with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is the first player to finish atop MLB jersey sales for four consecutive seasons since tracking began in 2010. The rankings, announced Friday by MLB and MLB Players, Inc., reflect purchases through Fanatics sites, including MLBShop.com, since Opening Day. Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees finished second behind Ohtani.
Crow-Armstrong and Acuna climb
Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr. Also made a substantial jump, rising from 11th last year to fourth. San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. Placed fifth. Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Juan Soto followed in that order, giving the upper portion of the list a strong Dodgers presence.
Japanese players reach a milestone
Ohtani, Freeman, Betts and Yamamoto gave the two-time World Series champion Dodgers four representatives in the top 20. Chicago White Sox player Munetaka Murakami finished 20th, joining Ohtani and Yamamoto in another landmark for the rankings: the first appearance by a trio of Japanese players in the top 20. Their inclusion added an international distinction to a list led once again by Ohtani.
