Florida's depth drives the Cup pick

The Panthers are the Stanley Cup pick for 2026-27, with the Avalanche projected as their championship-round opponent. Florida's case rests on its forward depth, dependable defensive core and a roster comfortable putting collective results ahead of individual production. Brady Tkachuk adds another major threat without needing to carry the offense as he did in Ottawa. With Aleksander Barkov healthy and the roster rested, Florida has the personnel and championship experience to withstand a demanding postseason. Goaltending remains the central question. Jacob Markstrom arrives from New Jersey to replace Sergei Bobrovsky, and Florida is banking on its evaluation of the veteran and the strength of the team around him. The projection calls for another title despite that uncertainty.

Lightning and Canadiens set the division pace

Tampa Bay leads the projected Atlantic order, followed by Montreal and Florida. The Lightning's outlook is built around Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevskiy and a blue line strengthened by John Carlson. Translating regular-season success into a deeper playoff run remains the challenge. Montreal looks capable of threatening the conference's established contenders. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Ivan Demidov anchor an increasingly dangerous attack, while Chris Kreider brings experience and physical play. Young goaltending and Lane Hutson's influence on defense give the Canadiens a chance to accelerate their championship timeline.

Toronto and Buffalo projected into postseason

Toronto follows Florida in the division forecast, with Buffalo projected to earn a wild-card berth. Kirill Marchenko's arrival gives Auston Matthews a skilled linemate, while Gavin McKenna and Darren Raddysh add to the Maple Leafs' reshaping. Buffalo's outlook benefits from playoff experience and a developing young core alongside Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Boston, Ottawa and Detroit round out the projected order. Offensive depth is a concern for the Bruins, while the Senators must compensate for Tkachuk's departure. Ottawa's defensive structure and Linus Ullmark nevertheless offer a possible route into contention.
