Record-Breaking Night
Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane became the NHL's career leader in assists among U.S.-born players by recording his 895th assist on a power-play goal. The 37-year-old reached the mark in his 1,377th game, passing the previous record of 894 assists held by Phil Housley in 1,496 games. Kane later added another assist to bring his career total to 896.
Game Outcome
Kane's second assist set up the overtime goal that secured a 4-3 win for Chicago. The performance also lifted his career points total to 1,405 after he had already set the American points record last season. He ranks fourth among U.S.-born players with 509 goals.
Career Context and Connection
Now in his 20th NHL season, Kane returned to Chicago on a two-year contract after winning three Stanley Cups in his first 16 seasons with the team. Drafted first overall in 2007, he earned league MVP and scoring honors in 2016. Connor Bedard, selected first overall by the Blackhawks in 2023, combined with Kane on the opening goal. The pair became the second set of first-overall picks chosen at least 15 years apart by the same franchise to record a goal together, following a connection that occurred eight times between two other players.
