Midseason Turnaround Fuels Success
Acquired by the Rays before the trade deadline, Freddy Peralta posted a 2-0 mark with a 0.75 ERA across three appearances and two starts during the ALCS. He had gone 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts earlier with the Mets before finishing 5-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 starts for Tampa Bay. That stretch earned him AL pitcher of the month honors for September.
Fastball Dominates Series Play
Peralta leaned on his four-seam fastball throughout the ALCS. He allowed one run and five hits across 5 1/3 innings in a 7-3 victory. He also worked six scoreless innings in Game 2 and recorded two key outs in relief during Game 4. The right-hander entered the postseason after going 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA the prior year.
Next Challenge Against Former Club
Peralta will now face his old team in the World Series. He made 10 straight regular-season appearances while surrendering one run or fewer in each, and his club won all 10 of those games. The right-hander credited his turnaround to work with the pitching staff after joining the Rays.
