Purdy sets the pace

Defenses pushed back in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season after an opening week defined by record scoring. Through the opening stretch, the league's pressure rate stands at 35%, with a pass rush win rate of 25%. Brock Purdy has nevertheless helped lift the 49ers into the top three of the power rankings. His league-leading 94.9 QBR reflects a strong start despite injuries around him. He also became the fifth quarterback in NFL history with multiple games featuring a completion percentage of 90%. San Francisco now has two more weeks at home, beginning with a matchup against the Cardinals.

Different answers to defensive pressure

Josh Allen continues to threaten defenses through the air and on the ground. He is averaging 9.7 yards per attempt and has delivered three touchdown passes on throws traveling at least 20 air yards. His scrambling has produced 70 of his 92 rushing yards. Seattle has received steady relief work from Drew Lock since Sam Darnold was injured early in the opener. Lock has completed almost 73% of his attempts, thrown four touchdowns and avoided turnovers while taking only two sacks. Baltimore has a more urgent protection problem. Its pass block win rates of 38% and 33% represent the lowest marks in games started by Lamar Jackson. A Cowboys defense with two sacks this season offers a potentially more manageable assignment.

Chargers slide, Bears turn to depth

The Chargers have dropped to No. 22 after an 0-2 start despite being favored by at least 6.5 points in each game. The Raiders, coming off a win over Los Angeles, sit at No. 20 and are 2-0 for the first time since 2021. Chicago, meanwhile, expects Caleb Williams to miss time with a right hamstring injury. Coach Ben Johnson has designated him week-to-week, leaving Tyson Bagent to run an offense whose scheme is expected to remain intact.
