Return target comes into focus
The Rams are looking toward Week 4 for wide receiver Puka Nacua’s return as he continues to deal with groin soreness. Coach Sean McVay said Nacua will sit out Friday’s practice and receive a doubtful designation for Sunday night’s matchup against the Denver Broncos. That leaves his availability in serious doubt for another game after he missed Monday’s victory over the New York Giants. Nacua has been absent from practice since Sept. 17 and was added to the injury report the following day with a hip injury. McVay indicated that if Nacua cannot play against Denver, the team expects him back the following week, provided his recovery does not encounter a setback.
Caution without an injured reserve move
Despite the missed practice time, McVay said the Rams are not considering placing Nacua on injured reserve. Their current approach remains focused on a potential return next week rather than an extended absence. McVay has explained that the demands of Nacua’s position are a factor in the cautious handling of his recovery. The discomfort becomes a concern when a receiver needs to accelerate and run at full speed. In describing the symptoms Wednesday, McVay compared the sensation to discomfort that can precede a hernia. The coach also said the current issue is unrelated to the psoas injury that sidelined Nacua in August.
