Garand anchors the net in debut
Two days after Shesterkin suffered a season-ending knee injury, the 24-year-old Garand turned aside 19 shots to help the Rangers defeat the Canucks 6-2. The victory marked New York's fifth win in seven games and extended its home winning streak to four straight to open the season. Spencer Martin served as the backup.
Kartye and Cuylle lead the attack
Ty Kartye scored twice, including the go-ahead goal that broke a 2-2 tie late in the second period. Will Cuylle also netted twice, while Alexis Lafreniere and Gabe Perreault each added one. J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad recorded two assists apiece. Lafreniere's power-play goal gave the Rangers a 4-2 lead early in the third.
Milestone and road struggles for Vancouver
Zibanejad reached 250 career power-play points with his assist on Lafreniere's goal, placing him third in franchise history behind Brian Leetch and Rod Gilbert. The Canucks fell to 2-5-0 under their new coach and have now lost consecutive games after dropping a contest the previous night.
