Record audience for a dramatic finish
Baltimore’s 34-31 win over Dallas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday became the most-watched international game in NFL history, averaging 24.9 million viewers. The audience grew to more than 30 million late in the contest as the Ravens and Cowboys headed toward a decisive final play. Tyler Loop delivered the winning kick for Baltimore, connecting on a 56-yard field goal as the game ended. The finish gave the Ravens a narrow victory and capped a broadcast that established a new audience benchmark for the league’s international schedule.
How the international audiences compare
The Rio matchup drew a larger average audience than this year’s Week 1 meeting in Australia between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, which attracted 18.5 million viewers in the U.S. Last year’s Friday night Week 1 game in Brazil, featuring the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, also averaged 18.5 million viewers. The other six international games last year averaged 6.2 million viewers. Against those figures, Sunday’s Ravens-Cowboys matchup marked a substantial increase in viewership for an NFL game played outside the United States.
