Series sweep secured
The Rays completed a three-game sweep of the Yankees with a 4-3 victory at Yankee Stadium. A two-run home run from Victor Mesa Jr. in the top of the sixth inning gave Tampa Bay the lead for good. Anthony Volpe hit what appeared to be a tying home run in the bottom of the sixth, but the play was overturned on fan interference.
Clubhouse celebration includes pointed song choice
After the game the Rays celebrated in the visitors clubhouse. Someone in charge of the music played Frank Sinatra's version of the song the Yankees use after home wins. The choice added a layer of rivalry to the moment following the series sweep.
Momentum carries into next round
Tampa Bay will try to build on the result when it opens the ALCS against either the Cleveland Guardians or the Chicago White Sox.
