Criticism of Current Performances
Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United players must show far more commitment on the pitch. He pointed to a lack of running and effort that has left supporters frustrated, noting that some appear numb and without emotion during matches. The all-time leading goalscorer stressed that past ability alone is not enough and that players need a stronger reminder of what representing the club requires.
Squad Assessment and League Standing
Rooney described the current group as a mid-table side at best, far from the level needed to compete at the top. He highlighted that other teams in similar positions demonstrate hard work through running and tackling, while United's players seem to overestimate their capabilities. The side sits 16th after a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth.
Manager's Position and Recruitment Concerns
Michael Carrick will remain in charge for the upcoming match against Chelsea despite an uncertain future. Rooney noted that recent results created false hope about the squad's quality, but a major overhaul has been needed for years. He added that spending on certain areas, including midfield, has not delivered the required improvement.
