Etienne Moved to IR

The New Orleans Saints are placing running back Travis Etienne Jr. on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. The move will keep him out for at least the next four games. He sustained the injury in the club’s Week 3 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Coach Kellen Moore announced that Etienne will miss extended time.

How the Injury Unfolded

Etienne had appeared on the injury report with a hamstring issue heading into the Raiders game but took part fully in Friday’s practice. The setback hit the same leg that had bothered him during the week. He finished with a season-high 19 carries for 57 yards before leaving. After his exit, Alvin Kamara received six carries and Kendre Miller got four.

Backfield Picture Heading into Week 4

Kamara had missed time with a knee injury in September before making his season debut in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, when he had nine carries to Etienne’s eight. The Saints used Etienne almost exclusively as the main rusher in the first half against the Raiders. For the Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, Kamara, Miller and rookie CJ Donaldson are expected to share the load. Kamara ranks second on the team with 18 carries for 51 yards despite sitting out the opener. Miller, a healthy inactive versus the Ravens, is third with 13 carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.
