Practice progress ahead of Chicago
Saquon Barkley is preparing to face the Chicago Bears on Monday night with confidence that a recent stinger will not change his approach. The Eagles running back underwent an MRI on Monday and returned to practice this week, progressing from limited participation Thursday to a full session Friday. Barkley said the evaluation helped ease his concerns, and he believes his rehabilitation has put him in a good position to play without hesitation. His previous appearance was cut short after defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons stopped him for no gain on Philadelphia’s opening offensive snap. Barkley was evaluated in the medical tent before heading indoors. He briefly rejoined the game in the second half but logged only 10 of a possible 72 snaps, finishing with four carries for 9 yards.
Adjustments to protection and preparation
Barkley wore a neck roll when he returned Sunday and intends to use a modified version against Chicago to give him more freedom of movement. The injury has also prompted a change in his training priorities. Barkley said he has dealt with stingers before, but this was his most significant episode in a long time. After emphasizing lower-body work and career longevity, he now plans to make neck strength and stability a regular part of his routine. Barkley has gained 92 rushing yards on 19 carries through two games, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt. He has yet to miss an entire game because of injury during his two-plus years with Philadelphia.
