Meeting Draws Outside Criticism
The Dallas Cowboys defense held a players-only meeting following its home loss to the Buccaneers. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown said the group reviewed its performance point by point to check alignment with team standards. Former coach Mike Tomlin called such meetings a negative sign if word spreads publicly.
Schottenheimer Sees Positive Intent
Brian Schottenheimer welcomed the session and described it as productive and open. He noted that the strongest teams are driven from within the locker room and that the discussion showed the group is aligned in its effort to improve. The coach added that the unit's pride remains evident.
Defense Continues to Struggle
Dallas ranked 30th in the league a year ago and surrendered the most points in the NFL. Under first-year coordinator Christian Parker the group sits 31st this season while allowing 395.4 yards per game. New addition Rashan Gary said the meeting focused on building consistent habits.
Adjustments Planned for Next Game
Schottenheimer confirmed Parker will move to the booth for the matchup against the Packers and that rookie Malachi Lawrence will see additional snaps. The coach expressed confidence that the defense will correct its issues.
