Joint discipline follows Alabama incident
South Carolina and the SEC announced Monday that standout edge rusher Dylan Stewart will serve a one-game suspension after punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford in the helmet during Saturday’s matchup. The joint announcement followed Shane Beamer’s decision Sunday to suspend Stewart indefinitely. The South Carolina coach said that punishment involved more than the punch. Stewart also was seen arguing with coaches on the sideline during the game.
Conference warns of tougher consequences
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey condemned Stewart’s conduct as a violation of conference standards and emphasized the potential for an opponent to be injured. He also warned that additional misconduct by Stewart would bring more severe punishment. South Carolina athletic director Jeremiah Donati supported both the league’s action and Beamer’s disciplinary decision. Donati stressed that athletes are expected to maintain their composure under competitive pressure and said Stewart had failed to meet that expectation.
Kentucky next for Gamecocks
The Gamecocks fell to 2-2 after their 49-18 defeat against Alabama. They return home to face No.
