Celebrations draw program rebuke
He acknowledged concerns raised by the Texas community and said the conduct must not be repeated. Simmons drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for pretending to urinate on the field following a sack during the 20-17 victory. He finished with a school-record 5½ sacks. Brown celebrated a fourth-quarter touchdown by moving his hand from his crotch to his face and then acting as though he had passed out.
Sarkisian addresses both players
Coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday that the celebrations were unacceptable and that he had spoken with Simmons and Brown. He suggested disciplinary action would follow but offered no specifics. Sarkisian briefly took Simmons out of the game, and clips of the celebration had spread widely online by halftime. Del Conte also emphasized that both players had accepted responsibility. While apologizing to those who expect better conduct from Texas, he framed the incidents as opportunities for the players to learn rather than a reflection of their character.
